Symptoms of a urinary tract infection can be noted as frequent urge to urinate, burning sensation, severe pain while passing urine, soreness in abdomen, sides or back. The urine may be cloudy and it may smell badly and your belly may feel tender or heavy. Most infected people may pass urine more than six times a day. Few other symptoms of a urinary tract infection are back pain, chills, fever, nausea and vomiting. Proper diagnosis and right treatment well in time is more important to avoid further complications. A physician is the right person to diagnose and suggest you with right medication. he diagnosis can be made by collecting a urine sample and getting tested in the laboratory under a microscope for examining the bacteria. Sometimes a pelvic exam may also be necessary. Simple infections occur in healthy urinary tracts, but do not spread to other parts of the body. If the infections are complicated, they are likely to spread to other parts of the body and the condition may be worsened.

Urinary tract infections can be avoided by following some simple measures at home. Some of the risk factors of UTI's (urinary tract infection) are abnormal functioning of the urinary tract, backward flow of urine etc. These infections can be avoided by following healthy hygeine habits. Never use bubble baths or soaps which irritate the urethra. Avoid sexual intercourse during infections till they are completely cured. It is better to drink lots of water and fluids and take a hot bath to get much relief from the pain.
